Sand Ceremony
This Ceremony is performed after the ring exchange. We are listing a variation which includes children of prior relationships because many couples find that a Sand Ceremony is a great way to involve children in the service, as well as to symbolize the joining of their new family.
This Ceremony can also be adapted to include any family members or friends that you choose.
Standard
Today, (groom) and (bride) have elected to symbolize this new union which they are forming with a
sand ceremony. (groom) and (bride) will each be represented by a different color of sand. The
separate containers of sand represent their separate lives. They represent all they have ever been
throughout their lives as individuals to this point in time. As the separate containers of sand are
poured into the larger container, the separate containers will no longer exist, but will be joined
together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and returned to the original
container, so will it be for their lives.
With Children
Today, (groom) and (bride) are not only entering into a marriage, but are creating a whole new
family. They have chosen to symbolize this with a sand ceremony. Each member of this new family,
(groom), (bride), (children's names), will be represented by a different color of sand. Just as your lives
will be joined together, the separate containers of sand represent your separate lives, and separate
family's. They represent all you have ever been throughout your lives as individuals to this point in
time. As the separate containers of sand are poured into the larger container, the separate containers
will no longer exist, but will be joined together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never be
separated and returned to the original container, so will it be for your lives.
